How to Release Music on YouTube Music
Want your song to appear on YouTube Music? Uploading a video to your own YouTube channel and distributing an official audio release to YouTube Music are different processes.
RMC Records Editorial · Updated October 17, 2026
1. Choose a distributor
Find a music distributor that supports delivery to YouTube Music. Compare the cost, royalty terms, release limits and services included in the plan.
2. Prepare your audio and artwork
Export your final audio and prepare cover artwork that follows your distributor's specifications. Confirm that you have the rights and permissions needed for distribution.
3. Enter accurate metadata
Provide the correct song title, artist name, contributor credits and other requested details. Accurate metadata helps your release appear correctly.
4. Submit and check your release
Upload your files, respond to quality-control requests and allow time for delivery. Once the release is available, check the title, artwork and artist details.
What is an Official Artist Channel?
A YouTube Official Artist Channel brings eligible artist content together on YouTube. It is separate from ordinary music distribution, and eligibility requirements apply. Check YouTube's official guidance or ask your eligible music-service partner about the process.
Does distribution include YouTube Content ID?
Not necessarily. YouTube Music audio delivery, music-video distribution and Content ID rights management are distinct services. Confirm which services your distributor actually provides.
